Love-IS IT WORTH IT ALL!!

I have in my writings and poems long debated about the existence of love; at times doubted it, some other times accepted it, at moments slandered its power but have most of the time been simply awed and dazed by an emotion so strong;humbled by the strength it endows a person.

Indeed perhaps one of the best kept secrets in modern day H.R. texts is that there is no stronger motivation than love or its antithesis -hate. Love has the strength to drive us further than we believed possible. In the name of love generations before us and generations after us will continue to make unbelievably altruistic sacrifices. So the company that can create love within its employees for itself, has gained a band of loyal followers that will stick behind it like a rock. But to create that love is supremely difficult and that is why strategies such as this are not thought for employees. Maximum HRs could hope for a sense of belonging and loyalty.

The anti thesis hate is a dark emotion that can equally stir up deep feelings. Indeed if love is an emotion that can make us do good, hate can make us do the biggest wrong. But enough. This post is about love and hate shall be added to the list of potential future topics.

Anyway the paradox is this most cultures value love but in many cultures love can often be forbidden and a sin in some forms. As a person who broke his heart and from the broken pieces found poetry flowing, love is a central theme. Also as an Indian where love is celebrated and cheered by the societies in the movies but when a guy goes around with a girl in real life, it is frowned upon. Indeed India is a land where arranged marriages are seen by parents as a duty to their wards and love marriages are a immoral, corrupting force destroying society.

But we are humans and our emotions are not in control. As a poet put it
" Aag ka kya hai pal do pal mein lagti hai,
Bujhte bujhte ek zamaana lagta hain."
(love is like a fire which can flare up in a moments but to die out or extinguish it takes a hole era)

Anyway my question is this does magical love exists. In fact have a look at "Walk The Line", a biopic movie about the singers Johnny Cash and June Cash. They were married to others when they met, johnny won her over after a lot of efforts and they were happily married for 35 years raising kids, playing music and died withing three months of each other. Is not that love that can be envied.

So does love matter and does true love exists

Cooking for two, alas three

I take Mysore as the golden period in my life where I must do everything I have ever desired in life because I am unlikely to get the oppurtunity to be in such a small and crappy city again. The city sleeps at nine-thirty. Mysore is small and I spent a miniscule amount of time commuting. This gives me time for a lot of other things. Also I am likely to be on bench for a long long time right now. This may be depressing for many but I adore the idea. I get time for myself and there is no overtime pressure.

So among the things that I always wanted to do was to learn to cook. Now I could always cook a bit but that was very scarce.

Out here in Mysore in the south part of India, the taste of food is rather unsatisfactory. Initially when I was being trained, I could adjust as I thought it was temporal but later when I got posted here I knew it could not continue. So what do three engineers do in front of an intractable problem about taste?

They start to cook dinner.

So while breakfast and lunch during the weekdays is at the work place we mostly cook the dinner. Tragically its still limited to vegetarian fare. But we can cook the entire Indian meal- daal, subzi, chaawal and roti. Along with stuff like raita, desserts like sevain, halwa etc also frequent.

How much have I progressed. I am not very good with the subzi but I can cook the dal and chaawal independently along with some types of vegetables. I am also the weekend breakfast specialist which ranges from dalia, upma to chanae as well as varieties of halwa.

But the most difficult skill I havemastered is rotis. Ladies and gentlemen, kneading the dough or aata is one simple looking skill which is hard as a nut to master. Getting that right consistency is tough and adding water is an art. So many times I ended up with a wet slurry that had to be then added to an equal amount of dry atta. I would be bad mouthing rotis trying to remove all the atta from my hand while my patient flatmate would be improving my disaster. Poor dharam, he really had a lot of patience. He was the only guy who had prior cooking skills worth mentioning.

Now of course I tend to get the consistency of the dough right and my chapattis are large, thin and round. This is a thing which many girls cannot boast of. And I say so because so many girls I know go like "Wow, your chappatis are round.(envy there)". Ladies, the rotis take effort.

And this is an appreciation for all the ladies who cook for thei families. Kudos to you all. Its a hard task. And from my mom to so many women around also work. I would want praise every-day if I was to cook.

A measure of my progress came when some days back we prepared wonderful chole bhatoore, a punjabi dish. It was superb. I said to myself we have crossed a level.

Anyway I have to go now. There is dinner to be cooked. Planning for matar-paneer , daal and rotis. Maybe rice also

PJ- packet series

An empty mind is a devils workshop. So these days I have been musing about packets with a bias to http packets. Used these jokes to win a geeky contest.

Here are some packet PJs.

Q). What did one packet say tothe other?

Ans-Life is short

Q).What did one virtual circuit or the VOIP packet say to the other?

Ans. Follow me.

Q). What did one packet say to the other while entering the undersea fibre optic cable.

Ans. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Q). What did the other packet reply?

Ans.) Idiot, analyze the dispersion. Its a laser

Q). What did the packet ask the router?

Ans. Are you a higher being

Q.) What did the two UDP packets whisper about the http packet?

Ans. He is so fat

A very moving tale

A very moving and enjoyable forward. I liked it. Hope you all also do the same.

A girl asked a guy if he thought she was pretty.

He said...NO.
She asked him if he would want to be with her forever
...and he said NO.

She then asked him if she were to leave would he cry, and once again he
replied with a NO.

She had heard enough. As she walked away, tears streaming down her face the
boy stopped her and said..
You're not pretty you're beautiful.
I don't want to be with you forever, I NEED to be with you forever.
And I wouldn't cry if you walked away...I'd die...

Two great great videos

The best wedding dance EVER. You gotta see this. Lovely idea.

WhoIsTheMonkey.com

The next has to be the video of the year. Iwatched the whole video and I actually cried. Anyway all the text that follows has been taken from, whoisthemonkey.com . Please read the article because that will help you in understanding it all
[From Sports Illustrated, By Rick Reilly] I try to be a good father. Give my kids mulligans. Work nights to pay For their text messaging. Take them to swimsuit shoots.

But compared with Dick Hoyt, I suck.

Eighty-five times he's pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in Marathons. Eight times he's not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a Wheelchair but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and Pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars--all in the same day.

Dick's also pulled him cross-country skiing, taken him on his back Mountain climbing and once hauled him across the U.S. On a bike. Makes Taking your son bowling look a little lame, right?

And what has Rick done for his father? Not much--except save his life. This love story began in Winchester , Mass. , 43 years ago, when Rick Was strangled by the umbilical cord during birth, leaving him Brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs.

"He'll be a vegetable the rest of his life;'' Dick says doctors told him And his wife, Judy, when Rick was nine months old. ``Put him in an Institution.''

But the Hoyts weren't buying it. They noticed the way Rick's eyes Followed them around the room. When Rick was 11 they took him to the Engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was Anything to help the boy communicate. ``No way,'' Dick says he was told. ``There's nothing going on in his brain.''

"Tell him a joke,'' Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed. Turns out a Lot was going on in his brain. Rigged up with a computer that allowed Him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his Head, Rick was finally able to communicate. First words? ``Go Bruins!'' And after a high school classmate was paralyzed in an accident and the School organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out, ``Dad, I want To do that.''

Yeah, right. How was Dick, a self-described ``porker'' who never ran More than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he Tried. ``Then it was me who was handicapped,'' Dick says. ``I was sore For two weeks.''

That day changed Rick's life. ``Dad,'' he typed, ``when we were running, It felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!''

And that sentence changed Dick's life. He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly Shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon.

``No way,'' Dick was told by a race official. The Hoyts weren't quite a Single runner, and they weren't quite a wheelchair competitor. For a few Years Dick and Rick just joined the massive field and ran anyway, then They found a way to get into the race Officially: In 1983 they ran another marathon so fast they made the Qualifying time for Boston the following year.

Then somebody said, ``Hey, Dick, why not a triathlon?''

How's a guy who never learned to swim and hadn't ridden a bike since he Was six going to haul his 110-pound kid through a triathlon? Still, Dick Tried.

Now they've done 212 triathlons, including four grueling 15-hour Ironmans in Hawaii . It must be a buzzkill to be a 25-year-old stud Getting passed by an old guy towing a grown man in a dinghy, don't you Think?

Hey, Dick, why not see how you'd do on your own? ``No way,'' he says. Dick does it purely for ``the awesome feeling'' he gets seeing Rick with A cantaloupe smile as they run, swim and ride together.

This year, at ages 65 and 43, Dick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20,000 starters. Their best Time? Two hours, 40 minutes in 1992--only 35 minutes off the world Record, which, in case you don't keep track of these things, happens to Be held by a guy who was not pushing another man in a wheelchair at the Time.

``No question about it,'' Rick types. ``My dad is the Father of the Century.''

And Dick got something else out of all this too. Two years ago he had a Mild heart attack during a race. Doctors found that one of his arteries Was 95% clogged. ``If you hadn't been in such great shape,'' One doctor told him, ``you probably would've died 15 years ago.'' So, in a way, Dick and Rick saved each other's life.

Rick, who has his own apartment (he gets home care) and works in Boston, and Dick, retired from the military and living in Holland, Mass. , always find ways to be together. They give speeches around the country and compete in some backbreaking race every weekend, including this Father's Day.

That night, Rick will buy his dad dinner, but the thing he really wants to give him is a gift he can never buy.

``The thing I'd most like,'' Rick types, ``is that my dad sit in the chair and I push him once.''

Three cheers for Dick Hoyt. May Allah give everyone the courage to be such patient parents.
ENJOY

Found this site http://keepmeinsuspense.blogspot.com/ the other day while browsing on the net. Really interesting site. Lots of tips for writers etc. So good in that sense.

Moving on today was a holiday so had a movie day

Started with Man on Fire a 2004 release starring Denzel Washington. Its a nice movie about a retired assassin played by Denzel Washingtonwho is now employed as a bodyguard for a little girl Pita played by Dakota Fanning. In the course of the movie Pita is kidnapped and everyone assumes later killed by the kidnappers. Denzel who had been shot during the kidnapping, recovers and goes after the kidnappers meting out his own justice. The movie was very interesting and fun to watch though the attempt to portray it as a real story in the end left a bad taste in my mouth. I had to go on to the net and double check.

Next I shifted to The Simpsons which was again a rather enjoyable movie. The antics
of the Simpson Family have foreven been bizarrely hillarious and the trend continues. Watch it only if u are interested.

Finally I decided to watch 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. The final of the trilogy, the movie was as fast paced and enjoyable as the rest though I think a glitch occurred
when it is shown in the movie that an agent who is supposed to kill Bourne leaves him untouched after Bourne is knocked out by a car explosion intended to kill someone else. I dont really get the scene. SUm1 explain it if possible.

Falling in love can really hurt you

Falling in love can really hurt you

Guess what I long suspected has finally turned out to be true. Love can be dangerous. Quoting from a paper

It’s official now. According to scientists, love really hurts.
Researchers at
Imperial College London have revealed that the range of physical effects caused
by the ups and downs of romance can cause serious long-term damage to the human
body.
"Our bodies are constantly going through a roller coaster of emotions
and love has some very obvious physical effects," said Prof. Martin Cowie of
Imperial College.
"Pupils dilate, palms become sweaty and the heart rate
increases. Large amounts of adrenaline are running through our system which does
cause problems," he added.
He said that stress-related illnesses at work
arise from similar physical conditions. Prof. Cowie, who has been studying the
effect of emotions on humans, said there is evidence that bereavement can
increase the risk of heart problems and death.
He said that inability to
acknowledge the effects of emotion on health makes things worse.

Book Review

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Well the final edition of the Harry Potter series is out and we now know once and for all, the boy who once survived a death spell survived again.
And Harry, with the unerring skill of the Seeker, caught the wand
in his free hand as Voldemort fell backward, arms splayed, the slit pupils of
the scarlet eyes rolling upward. Tom Riddle hit the floor with a mundane
finality, his body feeble and shrunken, the white hands empty, the snakelike
face vacant and unknowing. Voldemort was dead, killed by his own rebounding
curse, and Harry stood with two wands in his hand, staring down at his enemy’s
shell.
Anyway I am not a Harry Potter fan but still I find the books a good read.

The final book is interesting. As the finale author J K Rowling has actually used the pen as a brush and the result is a heady mix of emotions. Harry Potter journeys along with his friends destroying horcruxes an escapes disaster so many times, so easily that frankly it becomes a big joke. I think the authoress fails here in this context.

Beyond this the book is generally well written. The final character of both Snape and Dumbledore is surprising. Severus Snape; the vile, hated master of potions and killer of Albus Dumbledore turns out to have never really been working for Voldermort. His love for Lilly, Harry's mother as revealed in the last few pages is indeed touching.
"Snape's Patronus was a doe," said Harry, "the same as my mother's, because he loved her for nearly all of his life, from the time when they were children. You should have realized," he said as he saw
Voldemort's nostrils flare, "he asked you to spare her life, didn't he?"
"He desired her, that was all," sneered Voldemort, "but when she had gone, he agreed that there were other women, and of purer blood, worthier of him - "
"Of course he told you that," said Harry, "but he was Dumbledore's spy from the moment you threatened her, and he's been working against you ever since! Dumbledore was already dying when Snape finished him!"

Dumbledore was forever and still remains a hero but now at times there are dark shades attached to him.In a way its perhaps this complexity and depth of stories that set the books apart.

Also all rumors of another book could probably be laid to rest as the last chapter sees 19 years after Voldermort is dead with Harry having married Ginny and Ron being hitched with Hermoine. Sad I always thought Harry and HErmoine would be perfect. Anyway Harry and Ginny have already had three children and another lovely paragraph is the explanation of harry to his son about his name-
"Ablus Severus," Harry said quietly, so that nobody but Ginny could
hear, and she was tactful enough to pretend to be waving to rose, who was now on the train, "you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew."
Would I recommend this book. Sure I would. Go ahead and read this but take my word for it that there are better books also

UPDATES:-

Well I am back. Exams are over and good imes are back again. The hallmark of engineering survives. As each sem passes the fear of exams thins only to be replaced by diffidence.

Well hopefully I shall clear all. If not then maybe next time. This time I am not going home after exams. So am staying put in nearly desolate hostels. Its fun, I have never found the hostels emptier. Just to give you a feel of it, out of 18 people in my flank only 3 remain. Thats of course not counting the final year students who will leave after their projects are over.

So how does life pass. Well it rambles along like a river running slowly through a forest in no great hurry to get along.

Moving on placements shall atraert from second of july

We first have infosys coming along followed by Tata Consultancy services, then HSBC software, followed by Cognizant and a host of other companies .

Hopefully yours faithfully shall also get a job offer, though his mind is still not made up as to which company to sit for. Any ideas????????

S.M.S. lingo

Another of the Srijna articles. I have had people come and say the magazine is absolutely amazing. Will try to upload a pdf someday. Enjoy
S.M.S. lingo

160 characters can feel like a lifetime. Especially when keyboard is a ten digit number pad. Yes, the 160 characters is nothing more than the length of an S.M.S.(short messaging service).

Historically the earliest S.M.S. service was just added as a side kick to the first mobile phones. Many manufacturers left them out. Guess the never knew, that one day how indispensable it would become.

Despite its shortness the S.M.S. service has spawned its own lingo which has made their entry into everyone's everyday dictionary. And a whole new debate has taken birth. Because 160 words and a rather tough keypad ensures that the average S.M.S. user is a great gobbler of character hungrily devouring poor alphabets. And student go back and use the language in their papers. Is it right?

I do not know because its tough to judge. I simply do not get it at this. Like “tc”. For a long time I thought tc meant turbo C and i used to think “oh! Sak*** (name changed to protect identity on request. P.S. Please guess) must really like C language.” Of course having a premonition that i was walking to a fool's paradise I fished around for answers. I guardedly asked my good-friend Varun as to what Tc would mean in a sms and pat came the reply 'Turbo C yaar' . True Compies to the blood I guess. Anyway two is always better than one on a journey to inevitable embarrassment.

It was only much later that I realised Tc meant take care, but the joke stayed.

I think S.M.S. lingo is like compression algorithm. The optimal the algorithm, the tougher is the message to decode. Someone i know writes S.M.S.'s which I have to read at least thrice to figure out.I for one am very poor at such stuff. My S.M.S.'s for the good or the bad are long drawn out affairs stretching to three even four S.M.S. lengths. In retrospection I think it has more to do with the thing that I am hopelessly addicted to long eloquent sentences I can never shorten a word especially not so common ones as I always fear the reciever might misunderstand. But still I could try.

Btw i 4got 2 mentn dat smss cud b adictiv. I dnt kno if u wud aprciate dis but es fun.I herd 1 S.M.S. contst is goin to b hld. Wndr e I cud mk da cut...

Thot i wud brb bt 2 mch hs bin riten.

Scrapped Literally

This is another of the articles I wrote for Srijna.

SCRAPPED LITERALLY
There was a time when a scrap automatically brought visions of waste. But then occurred a revolution and they called it 'Orkut'. After that a 'scrap', it seemed had a whole new meaning for the masses.
Yes I am talking about the website www.orkut.com. There seem to be various descriptions for it include a networking site, a community website, a social site, etc. But we are not going to clinically analyze 'Orkut', because we are simply not here for this.
My first introduction to Orkut were the unsure steps I took when a good friend of mine, Arjun sent me an invitaion and literally forced me to register. Of course back then Orkut was totally unknown and I was confident that I would never go back to check on the site again.
Time it seems has proved me wrong.
First came Internet in the hostels, then came 'Orkut mania'. The first signs were long hours on Orkut waiting in desperation for new scraps. As one of the first victims, I remember checking for scraps every hour and getting gloomy if I did not find new ones.
Of course suddenly the number of scraps became linked to popularity on Orkut and it seemed no number was big enough and no means mean enough. One afternoon, I remember this conversation between two seniors using scraps.
Gujral- “Oye Akshat, tu to id ka chaand ho gaya hai!Dikhta hi nahi”
Akshat- “Hi Gujral! Kya karun kaafi busy chal raha hoon.Tum batao.”
.
.
some 20 smaller scraps...
.
.
Gujral- “Oye tum kahan baithe ho?Main Minocha ke comp pe baitha hoon.”
Akshat- “Yaar main Ashraf ke comp pe baitha hoon.”

Of course they conveniently forgot to mention Ashraf and Minocha were room-mates. The two were basically sitting back to back using Orkut to convey their thoughts, the increase in number of scraps as a by-product. I heard that one afternoon Akshat sirs rating jumped by 20 percent.
Beyond the addiction there are many benefits of Orkut. Somehow, I personally have never seen any. For example out of my class of 60, 56 are registered members of AIT COMP 08 Community. What is discussed there?Nothing close to academics. However it is not to imply that Orkut is harmful and should be banned as many say. Because, however long I have known Orkut it has been fun. And claps requires two hands we can just refuse to give ours.
I am now beyond Orkut having left the temptation behind. But you like this article please ,please let me know by scrapping me. My Orkut ratings are still at 80 percent. The scraps may just help.

THE AIT COMP CLASS OF 08

THE ABOVE IS THE BEST PHOTO OF S.E. COMP THAT I COULD FIND THOUGH THERE ARE A FEW SENIORS HERE.IF SOMEONE HAS A BETTER PHOTO PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME

Last Updated on 28th July 2006
Before this website was my blog Click to view
However initially no one visited it. Even when I requested people to come they did not. Well this page was then created as a post on my blog.
Then curiosity got everyone to the blog.
The popularity meant this page had to come.
The comment have been archive for history with proper documentation. Click to see. Very interesting stuff and very encouraging for me.

TITLES FOR THE WHOLE BATCH
1)ME but giving myself a title would be narcissism of the top order. However my friend VARUN gives me the title of the old monk, ghazal and shairy freak and so totally an enigmatic and virtually insatiable demon of knowledge. (varun " hey guys i wrote this personally, i believe in every word i wrote ")
Sonali Brands me as NDTV 24X7
HUZOOR is the name many know me by.
Now the time for me to write about me. Let me just poke fun at myself. I am in an eternal war aginst weight(people try to gain, I try best but fail to loose). I am obsessed with poetry and prose. I write much but I fear much of it may be worthless ramblings just like this. I am a bonafide 50% nothing student of P.U.

Also recently it seems others know more about my private life than I do. Since nothing exists,I am creating my own rumours by denying nothing. BUT what the hell!
How does it matter?

Beyond it all it seems this whole SE Comp title stuff is backfiring on me. Instead of being the fun thing it was supposed to be , it is turning to be quite a trouble with people who I have poked fun at convinced that I am trying to slander them or have an agenda against them.

Everyone if I am having a laugh at your cost I am willing to be laughed back at. Hell I laugh at myself here if you can see it.
And I cant write equally about everyone because I simply enough dont know the 60 people well enough to write about them. Beyond it I simply cant update more than ten people on a regular basis. And people about whom I have not written much are also minding. So the people I write mind what I write and those about whom I dont write mind that I am not writng about them. It seems I might be loosing friends and I dont like this scenario.

2)
VARUN SINGH bags the title of POTTER. Also his brains have been sapped away by consumption of water that sonali gets along. Poor guy is loosing it all.

Also the C.S. who nearly was. Infact for a some time we thought he was. COurse now he simply states he never ever was close to it but we know the truth.
